The primary mission of the South River School District is to coordinate the available resources of home, school, and community in a mutual effort to guide every pupil’s growth towards becoming a self-respecting individual who can effectively function politically, economically, and socially in a democratic society.  We will strive to help students learn to use their minds well, so that they will be prepared for responsible citizenship, further learning, and productive employment in our modern economy.

The South River Public School District offers Bilingual and English as a Second Language (ESL) program services to all eligible K-12 Limited English Proficient (LEP) students.  Our Bilingual/ESL teachers endeavor to ensure that all students achieve English language competence needed for mastery of the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards (NJCCCS), academic achievement as well as for success in a literate culture.

As a community resident/parent, you have the opportunity to serve on the district’s advisory committee regarding Bilingual/ESL education.  The specific purposes of the parent/guardian committee are to advise, counsel and assist in the planning, development and evaluation of the school system’s Bilingual/ESL programs.

In order to help our students become lifelong learners as well as to enable them to successfully navigate the demands of the statewide assessments, your assistance is needed.  Please consider sharing your expertise with us by serving as a member on the Parent Advisory Committee.  If you wish to serve, please call Ms. Elaine Pitta at 732-613-4000 extension 222 to confirm your interest.

Additionally, please be aware that a Parent Advisory Committee meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. in the Board of Education conference room.  We look forward to your participation.

Mrs. Branche, South River Elementary School’s art teacher, is so very proud to announce that we had eight finalists in the 2013 P.S. Aeropostale T-Shirt contest! Aeropostale received over 50,000 entries this year. Out of these 50,000, they chose 100 finalists from each grade (first through fifth). The finalists representing the school are: Fifth graders Zachary Tamajon and Christina Gianoukakis; Fourth graders Elizabeth Genthe; and, Third graders, Emma Lee, Brandon Bruno, Emma DiMaggio, Gavin Corticeiro, and Angelica Vaynagiy.

Congratulations to Carl Buffalino, South River’s Certified Athletic Administrator on being selected this year’s Bill Denny Educator of the Year.

MEMORIAL DAY PROJECT

In honor of the Veterans who have served our country, Tiffany Tejada and Jack Cruz, South River High School Grade 12 students, volunteered to draw a chalk replica of the POW/MIA flag insignia and related slogan on the sidewalk in front of the War Memorial Building on Main Street, South River.  Prior to the Memorial Day Parade, the image will be drawn on the public portion of the sidewalk facing the building.  Congratulations to Tiffany and Jack
