Elementary Announcements

  • Governor’s Educator and Educational Services Professional of the Year

South River Elementary School is pleased to announce that Miss Kate Daly has been selected as the Governor’s Educator of the Year and Miss Nicole Pepitone has been selected as the Educational Services Professional of the Year; both of whom contribute greatly to our school on a daily basis.

Miss Daly, a current third grade teacher, has been teaching at the elementary school for nine years. During her time here, she has exemplified the very best in teaching. Her approach to teaching is highly creative and motivating, inspiring her students to strive to perform at their very best regardless of learning style.

Miss Pepitone, our guidance counselor, has served the school for four years. Her dedication to our students and staff is shown through her compassion, kind manner, and sage advice. Her co-leadership of the school’s Kindness Club supports our school’s values and instills a sense of community into our students.

  • Book Donation from the SRPD

The South River Police Department, in conjunction with their local police unions (PBA and SOA) doanted and formally presented the children’s book, “The Adventures of SOLO, The Big Dog” to the South River Elementary School. The book, which focuses on a Police K-9 Dog that helps others and keeps them safe, will not only make a fine addition to the school’s media center, but it will also serve as a constant reminder of the highly valued collaborative partnership between the SRPD and the school community. Additionally, a portion of all sales from this book will be used for the purchase of K-9 body armor, K-9 first aid field trauma kits, K-9 cooling vests, and Pet Oxygen Mask kits.

  • Hour of Code

South River Elementary School joined the initiative to introduce students to computer science. Computers are everywhere, changing every industry on the planet, but fewer than half of all schools teach computer science. Girls and minorities are severely underrepresented in computer science classes, and in the technology industry. Good news is, we’re on our way to changing this.

With the Hour of Code, computer science has been on homepages of Google, MSN, Yahoo! and Disney. Over 100 partners have joined together to support this movement. Every Apple Store in the world has hosted an Hour of Code. President Obama wrote his first line of code as part of the campaign.

That’s why every one of the 558 students at South River Elementary School are joining in on the largest learning event in history: The Hour of Code, during Computer Science Education Week (December 5-11).
