Parents and families of the Third Grade participants in the District’s Gifted and Talented Program were invited to the students’ presentation of “Unsolved Mysteries” on Thursday, April 6, 2017. Led by teacher Mrs. Annette Lang, the students researched a variety of interesting topics such as the Bermuda Triangle, Crop Circles, Crystal Skulls, and Big Foot. Through posters and skits, the students shared their findings and hypotheses with the event’s attendees.

  • PTA Sponsors an Author’s Visit

In March, the South River Elementary School PTA sponsored assemblies by author Rachelle Burk.  Ms. Burk writes fiction, nonfiction and poetry for children. Ms. Burk gave presentations for 3, 4, & 5 graders encouraging students to be creative and find inspiration for writing all around them. She discussed how to turn ideas into poems and books.  She also hosted storytelling programs for the preschool classes.  Prior to her visit students designed treehouses as a companion project for Ms. Burk’s book “Treehouse in a Storm.”  Students also read the biography “Painting in the Dark,” written by Ms. Burk, and wrote letters to her and the artist Esref Armagan.
