  • Meeting The Challenge of Raising Healthy, Happy, and "Gritty" Children Presentation is scheduled on May 24, 2016, 6:00-7:30 pm, High School Media Center.  Jeffrey Benson is an educational elder, nationally known speaker, and author. He has worked in schools over forty years as either a teacher, mentor, or school administrator, and for many years he did them all. He has had the incredible good fortune of working with many wonderful people on school reform, conflict resolution, learning theory, trauma and addiction, school advisory programs, math education, staff development, leadership training, resiliency, and curriculum development. He is currently coaching principals and teachers, writing on many subjects about education, presenting at conferences—all in an effort to upload what he has learned. Along that path, he continues to learn more. His website, with links to his writing, interviews, and other information is       Barnes & Noble $25.00 gift cards will be raffled off.

  • Princeton University Distinguished Secondary School Teaching Award  -  South River High School is proud to nominate Sarah Stout Polakowski for the above award.  Ms. Stout is an exceptional educator who has been a true and tremendous asset to the District through her professionalism, exceptional level of pedagogical skills, dedication, reputable work ethic, willingness to act in a team spirited approach, enrichment of the curriculum through real life applications, and desire to connect with high school students.  She has, over her time here in South River High School, worn many hats and served the District in a variety of capacities which include English Language Arts and Advanced Placement English Literature Teacher, Intervention and Referral Services Mentor, Teacher Leader, Achievement Coach, and student advocate. 

    Ms. Stout Polakowski’s professional contributions as an educator have guided the high school professional teaching staff to explore, plan for, and implement added student engagement strategies as well as standards aligned assessments.  She has served as a state trained achievement coach which has provided the South River High School Professional Teaching Community with an opportunity to learn and grow as a teaching team. In this role, she has trained educators and remains a constant source of support for both staff and administration.

    Teacher leader and mentor represent two additional roles in which she has made an impressive impact on South River High School students. She wholeheartedly and diligently researches and identifies student strengths as well as areas for growth through discussions, data analysis, and observations.  Her interactions with students and staff contain an optimistic tone, positive and inspirational messages, and solution oriented plans of action. Sarah Stout Polakowski is a genuine advocate guiding students to personal and academic success and she is wished the best of luck at the next level.
