College Standardized Tests SAT I - SAT II - ACT è SAT/ACT Scores Sent To College/Institution ç It is the responsibility of the student to forward all test scores directly to the college/institution they choose to apply to. Scores can be sent online using CollegeBoard.com or ACT.org. Any questions regarding this procedure should be directed to your guidance counselor. SAT I – Reasoning TestMost colleges require that you take the SAT I test. You can find the registration booklet as well as test dates, and practice exams in the Guidance Office. It is the student’s responsibility to complete the required form and to mail the registration bulletin. Students may also register online at www.collegeboard.com for SAT testing. The school code for South River High School is 311-405. In order to forward your SAT scores to South River High School, you must complete Item 5 on your registration form. This will authorize a score report to be sent to the High School. Most students will take the SAT during their junior and senior years. It is recommended that a student take the exam at least once during junior year. It is also recommended that students take the exam two to three times in total. The SAT is divided into three areas; Math, Critical Reading and Writing with a maximum score of 800 in each section. SAT II – Subject Test Some selective colleges require students to take SAT II subject tests for admission. Please check on required testing information from schools that you plan to apply to. In addition, some schools require SAT II tests in some areas for placement in college courses. Students may register online at www.collegeboard.com for SAT testingStudents attending selective schools may be required to take the SAT II subject area tests. The SAT II is broken into individual subjects with each test 1 hour long. Each subject score ranges from 200-800. Most students should take the SAT II subject tests at the end of their junior year or beginning of their senior year. You should consult your counselor for additional information. ACT – American College Test The ACT Assessment, an alternative to the SAT, measures skills in four areas: English, Mathematics, Reading and Science. It is widely accepted as a standardized test for college admissions and students receive a composite score between 1 and 36; an optional writing component is also available. Students may register on line at www.ACT.org for ACT testing. TESTING ACCOMMODATIONS Students with an IEP or a 504 Plan who wish to have accommodations made for either the SAT or PSAT must first apply for approval through the College Board. Applications can be obtained in the guidance office; it is the parents’ responsibility to initiate the application process for accommodations prior to the deadlines set by the College Board. For Special Education classified students, the application is presented at the grade nine annual review.
