STUDENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM:

The Student Assistance Program is available to all students K - 12. Two student assistance counselors currently provide drug and alcohol counseling and referral, suicide intervention, and group counseling for the students in the district. One SAC covers the Middle School, and one SAC is assigned to the High School. Teachers suspecting a student of being under the influence alcohol or drugs in school are required to report such suspicions to the building Principal. These students will be immediately evaluated by the school nurse and a physician, as per the Board policy. The student assistance counselors are available to students and staff who also might be involved in abusive relationships, or for students who have a relative or parent with a drug or alcohol problem. Emphasis is placed in the prevention of problems, and students may be referred to outside agencies for further evaluation for treatment.

The student assistance counselor may participate in the Pupil Assistance Committees in each school. This committee involves trained student personnel specialists who meet regularly with the Principal to discuss concerns relating to students. Any staff member may refer a student to the Pupil Assistance Committee.
